Trimming series

Throughout history, photography has primarily involved the process of looking through the viewfinder and pressing the shutter button.
However, with the mutual advancement of camera technology and photographic techniques, the emergence of video camcorders introduced a new method of capturing images without using a viewfinder.
This innovation made it possible for the reality seen through the naked eye and the world framed by the viewfinder to coexist within the same visual field.

In my daily work, I often shoot video, but instead of looking through the viewfinder, I rely on the monitor.
This approach is particularly appealing to me, as it sharpens my senses and enhances my perception.

When shooting with a camcorder, I experience a strong sense of "capturing" or "extracting" moments.
On the screen, a world different from my own viewpoint always exists, and that parallel world is scooped up by my hand, creating beautiful, fleeting moments.
Moreover, using a compact camcorder allows me to capture glimpses of parallel worlds in any environment, which is one of the key appeals of this project.

Since I do not use a camcorder equipped with the latest technology, the resulting images retain a unique tension, with a painterly roughness that differs from film photography.
When printed on photographic paper, this rough texture appears three-dimensional, enhancing the beauty of the image.

I believe that "existence" only becomes real when someone recognizes it.
The real world that appears directly in my vision and the world displayed on the camcorder’s screen—when I perceive both of these worlds, they exist simultaneously.

The scenes, objects, and textures captured by the camcorder differ from what is seen with the naked eye.
In this difference, the essence of the people and objects in the frame seems to flicker in and out, evoking a sensation similar to hearing a voice only I can hear.

By presenting a "cut-out" reality—a world that appears visible yet remains unseen—I aim to share with the audience the essence I perceive through my "0.5" perspective.
Through this series, I hope to inspire reflection on the question: "Where are we now, in this very moment?"
